The new year has begun and it's off to an exciting start!

It's still early in the year and I've already worked with some new fresh and talented faces that have given me the opportunity to work on my craft and grow in many ways. I find it invigorating working with fresh talent, viewing photos as I take them and saying to myself "Wow" as I see a photo that is particularly striking to me. I can't wait for the adventures and growth of JailBreak Photography this year!

This weekend I am covering the Evil Dead the Musical - Portland again and it's already been such a pleasure. All the cast seem to really like my work and dig working with me in general. This years Evil Dead the Musical has a LOT more blood than last years. Makes for the screams and laughter to be much louder.

I've started a sister Facebook page to JailBreak Photography's Facebook page called JailBreak Exposed. This is an area where I will post more of the risque work. Check it out and "Like" JailBreak Exposed. I'll occasionally post sales on boudoir, pinup style shoots once more "Likes" are accumulated.

Once in a while I plan on posting behind the scenes photos from various shoots that I've been on with descriptions of the scenerio and what-not. Should be fun!

Still loving Portland Oregon and still inspired by the consistent energy, inspiration and life that there is here. I just can't wait until the weather is a bit more forgiving, haha.

I've been working on having solid JailBreak Photography activity across the web where things are better connected and able to be updated with current work, deals, and opportunities to provide fans and clients with interesting work. Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and the call weather already feels like it's transitioning into the cold winter weather.
I personally find it really beautiful during the fall season but it becomes difficult to go outside and take photos when your fingers are freezing cold, ha ha.
JailBreak Photography now has some hats made for several occasions. If people like them I may end up selling them but as of now they are for business purposes and to looks like in general.

In October I covered the Portland zombie walk for 2011, it was my first official Portland zombie walk and it was a lot of fun despite the hard-core rain.
As much as I wanted to cover the event as if an actual zombie outbreak had happened and I was a survivor with a camera, I decided to try and photograph each zombie participant that I saw to provide them with some quality photos of the Portland zombie walk as well as get the JailBreak name out there.

It's early in the month of November but I'm hoping to expand my portfolio a lot more before years end. We'll see how that goes!

Today I am rolling out to downtown Portland, and it's surrounding areas, to try and sell myself to all the glorious faces I see so regularly out there in the world. I have been working hard on a solid foundation of pricing and policies that suit JailBreak Photography and am excited to offer my services! I just hope people are excited to use them! Haha

I would really like to get my foot in the door to be able to cover the many live events that are here in Portland! The dance and music scene here is incredibly active, I look forward to the people that do decide that my style would work well with!

KumoriCon 2011

So KumoriCon 2011 has come and gone. This year KumoriCon 2011 was held in Vancouver, Washington. Just a stone throw away from Portland, Oregon. This is the first year I did not attend the convention as a gone goer and primarily as a photographer. It was a lot of fun to see the con goers that I know, the people I am friends with, former models, old cosplay buddies, and making people happy with the photos I took of them.

I still have more photos to go through, so keep your eyes peeled on this blog to know where I'll be posting them!

I'm sad to say that KumoriCon private cosplay shoots are not booking well. Even though charging $40 for nearly an hour of private one on one time, edited photos, and rights to use the raw images for printing an sharing is a KILLER deal (and very, very low cost in terms of photography), I understand why people are not booking.

Apparently there is a flood of amateur photographers who are providing shoots for people for very low cost, or free. To me, that is awesome. Cosplay photos have pretty much always been for fun. Only now am I trying to merge cosplay with my normal photography. I would love to start some calendars and books and what not, but that's still in the process in my brain.

With all this in mind, I will be dropping my price to $30 in general and $25 for people I've photographed before, or individuals that I have a good rapport with. We'll see how that goes.

If I could score a couple press passes to the convention, that would be really great. I could take photo journalistic images and have fun and still do private shoots. The problem with that is, even though I have received press passes in the past for KumoriCon, SakuraCon, Wonder Northwest, Etc - KumoriCon has been ridiculous about denying me access. I require a press pass to not have to muck around with volunteer staff hassling me for whatever reason they feel. lol.. I'm gonna stop talking about that because I may start raging.

We'll see how things go! I will have prints available for purchase on the site if anybody wants any.

Speaking of sites, I have been progressing on solidifying things for JailBreak's move to Portland. The site is looking nice, pricing is flowing along, working on package plans today.

It's cloudy out right now in Portland, Oregon. I've been pretty busy lately and enjoying life while taking great photos of awesome people.

This weekend is KumoriCon 2011 and I am booking private cosplay photo shoots and not attending this years actual convention.
This is my first year not attending the Anime Convention since 2005 or 2006. The last 2 years have not been very good in the sense of the convention (I've had a blast with friends though).

I hope it all goes well! See you there?!

Changing things up

I'm going to try and update this blog more often than I have. I feel there are a lot of great photos that I'll want to share on here now that I am changing the format of how I will present my work. I really feel I've bombarded viewers with a ton of various personal favorites that did not best represent my work. Now that I will be being more selective, I'll still want to share personal photos as well as fan photos and friends photos of myself.

Upgrades to Equipment and Life

Moving to Portland has already been one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I've just received some new equipment that will allow me to be more creative and capable with my photography. I'm very excited about this. :)
I recently posted an ad on Craigslist in hopes to do some trade work with local models in the area. I don't fully believe that I need to expand my portfolio in some areas, but this is a really great way to get the JailBreak Photography name out there and make some new clients and contacts.

Someone there

I'm hoping to make some contacts with a variety of clubs and night life here. I believe that to be a strong point for myself.. at least in the sense of me knowing what to do and how to capture people having a good time.
I would like to set up some places as a couple times a month, but am totally willing to be creative with these businesses. Such as: Trading advertisement, trading services, comped drinks, Admission to events, etc, etc.

I photographed a rave recently. It was very fun and I look forward to being hired to photograph some more of these events. :)

I've also been doing the best I can to grow as well. Finding the creativity and inspiration, breaching the walls that have existed from being in such a small town, enjoying life in general and seeing ahead with a smile. I really am happy to be here and look forward to how I grow in my photography.

It's been great photographing and hanging with Ashley as well. It works out well that we both feed off each others creativity. During the recent apocalypse we photo adventured and saw Back to the Future on the big screen at the Bagdad Theater in Portland, Oregon.

That was heavy!

Week 1 in Portland, Oregon

Today marks my first week in Portland. Let me tell you some of the things that have happened so far..

From the moment I got her I have been taking photographs of the city and life in the city. I've explored and hung out with Ashley on a regular basis. We both have plans to bring JailBreak Photography to life up here in the land of ports. (More on that soon)

I met up with my friend Jonathon at a couple of his gallery exhibits. He does fantastic work. He bought me a few beers as he schmoozed onlookers and as I took photographs.

This weekend some friends from Southern Oregon came up to see Coheed in Cambria at the Roseland Theater. Because of my, move and the expenses of moving, I was unable to go.. I thought.. Ashley said she would buy my ticket for me to go if I paid her back.. Well, they were sold out. There were scalpers.. But we had no cash.
Out of random chance, the guy in front of us in line overheard and said, "You guys need a ticket?" and I was like.. "Yeeeah.." Then he whips a ticket out of his pocket and gives it to me.
Thank you Thomas. That is just some fantastic icing on this cake of awesome.

So, I saw Coheed last night, being unfamiliar with most of their music, I was truly enjoying their performance. They are extremely talented and am looking forward to listening to them now. Apparently they played the full first album in its entirety. ..Along with Acoustic sets. 3 Hour show.

My house is set up for the most part, as well as the photography room. Now I just need models and people who want me to photograph. ;)

Wonder what this upcoming week will bring.

Time'sa Wastin'

I have 7 more days in the town that I was born and raised in. Aside from moving around Southern Oregon and travelling on vacations.. I have never really left this area. I am nervous about what the future may bring.
I'm finally establishing a fan base and a respective base of clients.. But Long ago, I felt I outgrew this location.

My move to Portland, Oregon will follow directly behind the Seattle, Washington Anime convention SakuraCon. I've booked private shoots, and although I don't prefer spending my time at the con panicking and running around trying to organize private shoots, but I do love to give people who want it the chance to have quality photographs of their hard work. :)

The money I earn from SakuraCon shoots will try and cover the cost for the convention as to not tap into my moving fund. So thank you if you have purchased a private shoot with me. <3

Ashley Anderson (the Shark) is progressing in Portland very, very nicely. When she is famous someday, I hope she keeps me in her thoughts. ;)

SakuraCon and Changes!

SakuraCon 2011 is coming up mighty quick! My other half of JailBreak Photography has moved on up to Portland, Oregon and is patrolling the waters. Best of luck to Ashley Anderson, the Shark. You're going to blow minds up there! See you soon!

With that in mind, I may be up there within a few weeks as well. In that time frame before SakuraCon and the move, i am having a $75 Leaving Town special. Here is the flyer:

Skate or Die

So, it's been a while since I have been skating, and since my birthday
just happened and my friends and I went to the Roller Odyssey for a
min birthday party thing, we've been going more often. It's great
fun. : ) I want to take some photos there while skating. It could
be really cute and fun.

I've been keeping rather busy with photo shoots and been photographing
some new models. I am feeling like it's about time to expand my
studio equipment some, but just need some funds. With Christmas and
trying to save to move, finding available fundage is difficult. It
will be nice to get the extra lighting and such. I really like the
control of a studio setup, and the results. :)

I'll be updating on this blog soon, the list of Disney Pin-up
characters that will be available for models to choose, or be chosen
for. There is about 30 characters as of now, and it will be a
daunting task, but well worth it. There is a lot of potential here.

I'll be stepping up the advertisements pretty soon, as to get
JailBreak out there a bit more. Currently it's all been word of mouth
or me physically talking to people. I really do believe that word of
mouth is the primary driving force in the valley I live in. So we'll
see I suppose.

I'm in the process of redesigning the layout/database of the JailBreak
website. It's always been a placeholder for the bigger picture I've
had for the site, but now I just need to get it done and done right.
Hopefully the people I've been talking to can handle the task and
handle it effectively. :)

For the remainder of today it will consist of: Get off work from
graphic design job, have meeting with model at 6pm. Pick up the Shark
from work, Christmas shop with Ashley, and probably edit photos up
until my meeting.

Also, I have to develop a solid pricing structure very soon. Packages
and options.

With extensive background in digital imaging / photo manipulation, I
am trying to decide the best way to market that as well. Hmm..

I've recently had a change in my schedule that allows me to have a lot more free time. It's been really nice to be able to pour myself into my work a little bit. Especially when I see results that I am pleased with. : )

I recently photographed Samantha and Katie together. It was my 3rd time photographing Sam and first time photographing Katie. They are both beautiful girls and are extremely fun to just be around. I will be planning another shoot very soon with them. This next one will be a bit more silly and fun.

My mom got me into photography when I was a little guy. i remember riding my He-Man ~ Master of the Universe plastic tricycle bike when i was like.. 3. And my mom asked me to stop riding and stand against a pillar. She took my photos and I remembered that moment, and the moment seeing the photos when they were printed. I was amazed. :)

So, today Ashley and I have a wedding shoot to do. That's in about 3 hours. In the meantime I am editing photos and being on pain pills.

It's the weekend - Woooooo!

Last night Ashley had a Zombie Photo shoot that I was part of (as a zombie). The models seemed to have a lot of fun and have asked for more zombie shoots with her. lol. Nothing wrong with more people wanting to be zombies!

I'm sure she'll post results from her shoot eventually. ;)

Tonight I am photographing at Wet Nightclub for an Animal Fundraiser event. People who dress in animal print are eligible for prizes and stuff. Should be fun!

I'll be doing my best to post a new photo up on the blog everyday. It's vbery hard for me to find time to do much, and editing is very time consuming. But just keep checking back, or subscribe to the feed so you know when the blog is updated.

Scotty McPilgrim and the Adventures of Captain Kumori the Con

So Oregon's largest Anime convention, KumoriCon in Portland, Oregon was a huge let down for me. First things first, even though I have had press badges, which allow me access to the events in areas the normal con-goers were typically not allowed to go (such as the front of the stage during main events) for prime photo opportunities, the KumoriCon staff was adamant about not giving me one this year. Why? Who knows?! You would think that with such a bad rap from last years convention in such a bad con space, they would want as much positive coverage that they could handle... But no, very, very, very firmly, no.

The reason I was not allowed one was because I did not work for a proper media outlet that reviewed or promoted conventions of that sort. ...See.. The thing about that is there are no mainstream magazines that review anime/cosplay conventions... Same goes for websites. The primary source of cosplay and anime conventions are usually sites that show off the costumes and photography from a particular con. I can't think of anybody who says, "hey, lets go read a review of this convention to decide if it is good or not!"

But hey, whatever. Their loss I suppose.

I don't think I will be going to KumoriCon next year.. If I do it will be just for my friends and only for photos. Ugh, what a let down.

Zombies

Well, it's almost October, and for a lot of us out there, it's getting closer to the best holiday of the year; Halloween!

I was asked by my bosses at my work (Redrock Italian Eatery) to take the photos this year to advertise for their annual Halloween Party poster. It's been a while since I've gotten to work on a little project, rather than just casual photos, and in particular the theme is zombies, so what could be better? I plan on taking them at the Eastwood Cemetery over by Bear Creek Park in Medford. I have a lovely group of people (5 of them) who will be my temporary army of the undead. I am looking forward to it, and I really hope I can delivery my work with some great photos.

The shoot is taking place this Friday, around 5 or 6pm.

I'm in the process of making a flier to leave at Hot Topic and other similar stores that will offer a special price for those who wish to have some simple photos taken of themselves and their friend for a extremely low cost. By doing this we hope to have word of mouth help us spread the JailBreak name and also make some new friends and clients.

We were lucky enough to get our little monsters together and go to the Monster Ball in Portland, Oregon a couple nights ago. Lady Gaga was beyond amazing. That is all!

Things have been busy lately. Not only are Ashley and I working on
the business side of JailBreak, but also trying to make plans for
events as well. Like, in a couple days we will be visiting Portland,
Oregon for Lady Gaga in concert. I'm rather excited about this. lol
Speaking of Lady Gaga, WET Nightclub in the Rogue Valley had a Lady
Gaga costume bash on Friday the 13th.

It was a really great event.
The costumes were fantastic and the staff was very polite and fun. I
may potentially end up photographing for WET Nightclub if they like
the photos I took. We'll see. It's a really nice atmosphere and I
would love to add some more nightlife to my portfolio.

Bad news, my 1.5 TB hard drive is pretty broken. This does not please
me. I need to find a local place that can repair it or something.

Ashley (the Shark) as Mother Monster

The last week I photographed my sisters wedding with Ashley,
Photographed the Lady Gaga event @ WET, did some mini studio shots
with Ashley dressed as Lady Gaga, did a shoot with April and her
family (as well as some modeling ones with her alone), and had a
modeling shoot with Angelina. It was a busy and fun week.
We will be posting galleries to all the shoots that we do as well as
random photos on this blog very soon. I still need to work on the
website layout.
This weeks goals will be thinned out a little. I've decided to book
Monday and Tuesday evenings for photo shoots every week, but due to
all the tasks performed last week, I think I need to conquer a few
challenges before we leave for Lady Gaga on Thursday.
So with that in mind, I am going to finish editing the 4 sets of
images, get this blog rolling appropriately, design marketing
materials and clothing for JailBreak. Wonder if anybody would sport
that stuff? I am thinking about having JailBreak girls. They can go
to events and hand out cards and be sociable and scout as well.
Obviously I will be selective on the type of personality and look I
use for a JailBreak girl. Could be fun though.
A more personal note, I am beyond pleased with Ashley's performance
and dedication. My family and friends are wowed by her eye eye for
photographs and her technical skills are continuously improving. Her
photos literally made my mom cry from joy. : )

One thing I think worth noting about Ashley's technique, is that she
is extremely empathetic to those she photographs. She really puts her
thoughts and emotions into what she is trying to capture. Keep your
eyes peeled for this Shark. ; )

JailBreak Photography Ad - First Attempt!

This is my first attempt at making an ad for JailBreak! I've never made flyers or ads before, so I'm pretty new to what would look more visually appealing to a wide audiance - guess it's time to dust off the old Basic Designs book. ;)

Many thanks to Ben and Jenna Barrett for allowing me to use their lovely faces in the creation of this ad! Hopefully Jason and I will have a gallery of their wedding photos here on the blog in the near future.

In more personal news, I was recently offered a server position at a restaurant - which I happily accepted! I'm very excited to be working at a restaurant again, I've always had fun in the past doing it. This is a great way to make some extra money too, so that I can get some new equipment! The reason I bring this up is because my availability will be changing very soon. Late afternoon/evening photography will be less likely of an option if anybody schedules a shoot with me. I will be open mornings and anytime before 3pm though! If a later time, or evenings, works better for you, we can try and work something out. Jason is also available anytime after 6:30pm - so let's enjoy the late summer nights while it lasts! Schedule a shoot today!

Chitlens

Last night I went out with Ashley and her boyfriend to his parents
house to have some BBQ food and to take some photos and visit.
Nothing planned really, just of the kids playin' and stuff. There are
some fantastic photos of the children that would not continuously hide
from the camera. lol
Before leaving Ashley and I had a conversation with Dustin's mother
about possibly volunteering our photography services to the local
adoption agencies to take quality photos of the children and their
families. I am very interested in doing this. I think we could
really provide something that these families will truly be thankful for.
I don't recall being told the name of the agencies that we may be
doing this for, but once learned I will definitely provide better
information and links.
This weekend I will be camping with Ashley, some friends, and her
mom. I am very excited about this. :D I will be photographing nature
and stuff. Also experimenting with photo techniques and just playin'
around.
Hot summer has been hot. Looking forward to jumpin' in the lake.

Weekend Progress

This weekend was almost surreal to a certain extent. Both Ashley and I
were dumbfounded that we did not have anything we HAD to do! We both
kept mentioning to each-other that it feels like we are needing to be
somewhere or need to finish something quickly.. But the fact was that
we had no formal responsibilities! It was a chill, relaxed day where
Ashley, Dustin, and I hung out and just took it easy. We hid indoors
during the day due to the horrendous heat wave going on. Air
Conditioning is glorious.
Throughout the weekend I caught up on photo editing, not completely,
but accomplished a lot. I am still debating on if I want to use
Photoshelter.com to host the photos for proofing and such, or If I
want to use another service. I am still debating at the moment..
The next couple days will be busy for me, but after that I want to
book some photo shoots. Even if it is just going to peoples houses
and doing something there.
Our "local" Anime / Cosplay convention is coming up soon. I am
considering booking photo shoots for people who want them. But I
become exhausted when I do that, and I sacrifice a lot of con time and
time with friends to fulfill these private shoots. Maybe I will book a
couple and that will be it.
I was thinking that this year I would just peruse the convention and
ask people whose cosplay I liked for private shoots. We'll see I
suppose.
On a personal note, I have been doing cardio everyday and muscle
training as well. I want to be more fit and am working towards that
goal.
This heat is horrible. I want to go swimming.. I may do that later.

Indubious

First off, this is my first attempt at updating using email. So, last
night at Shenanigan's Irish Pub in Southern Oregon, they were holding
a Last Band Standing event, I saw Indubious play live. They played
fantastically, had a great stage presence, and just plain rocked the
place. ^_^
Anyways, I photographed them playing and will be posting
some of those soon. Probably tonight. In fact, my goal this evening
is to get some photos up and out there.

I recently received my new ring flash adapter and my backdrops and
will be doing studio stuff very soon. Also, I will be contacting some
models that I haven't had time to photograph lately. Yeah, boooy-yeeee

Blammo! Let's get this rollin! Currently I am changing the old JailBreak Photography site to be easier to manage and more sociable. The primary focuses will be communication, sharing, and a sort of streamlined planning-to-purchase process.

Ashley and I recently photographed our friends Ben and Jenna Barrett's wedding.. Only problem was that we were in it as well! I was the Best Man and Ashley was the Brides Maid. We still managed to take some fantastic photos and after the whole exhaustion was done with, we were thirsting for more!

So, soon this blog will be fully functional and we will be photographing more instead of planning marketing, advertisements, pricing structures, scheduling, yadda yadda yadda.

Busy Week!

JailBreak Designs are prepping for their first Wedding event! It happens to be for good friends, Ben Barrett and Jenna Streetman. The wedding takes place this Saturday, July 17th, at 7pm. Should make for some awesome sunset photos!

But there's one problem...

Both of us are IN the wedding! Jason is Ben's Best Man, while Ashley is one of Jenna's Bridesmaid's! D:

During the actual ceremony, family members are taking the photos. We will be photographing all events before and afterward, as well as photographing Ben and Jenna alone, as well as with their families, and their respective bridal parties. Should be a great experience, all around! Although both of us will be working double time, both as photographers, and as friends. :)

This will be JailBreak Designs first collaberative photography event, and we're really looking forward to it!
